Chaffee County Search and Rescue North caps active membership for operational efficiency and team cohesion. New member slots may open on January 1 of each year. There is no guarantee that new spots will open in a given year.
Applications are accepted online between October 1 and November 10 of each year. If no slots are projected to be open in the following year, no applications will be accepted. No applications will be accepted outside this window.
Candidates will be selected by the board of directors based on team need and potential fit. The board of directors reserves the right to not select any candidate and not fill open positions. Notifications will be provided by January 20 (ideally sooner).
You may be asked to interview in person. Our intent is to get to know you more and provide you the opportunity to get to know us. SAR is a big time commitment.
You MUST agree to and pass a background check. We operate under direction of the Sheriff's department and this is non-negotiable. You will be asked to sign paperwork authorizing the background check.
Candidates must complete a 10 week academy which runs from February through April of each year. Candidates must attend at least 60% of academy training sessions and complete a final mock mission to graduate.
